MP’s want re-introduction of the trashed sugar report

 By Irene Mwangi

A section of members of the national assembly led by Kimilili Mp Didmus Barasa and Nyali Mp Mohammed Ali are calling for the re-introduction of the sugar report in the house as they claim the house was compromised before they discussed the controversial report. The leader of minority in the national assembly John Mbadi  has however maintained that despite the standing orders re-allowing them to re-introduce the report through amendments need to be done to it.

Members of the national assembly now want to invoke section 49 2b of the standing orders to call for the re-introduction of the sugar report by the chair of the joint committee investigating the matter Kanini Kega.

This is even as rumors within and without the august house that indeed Mps were bribed to reject the house committee have continued to elicit different reactions with members who were adversely mentioned among the list of shame who took bribe distancing themselves from the claims.

Nyali Mp Mohammed Ali now asserts that bribery in the house has been an order of the day and the investigation of the EACC on the matter will not bear much fruits.

The shooting down of the sugar report has been faulted by some members of parliament led by Dagorreti South MP Simba Arati but Minority leader John Mbadi has accused the committee of undertaking shoddy investigations.

Homabay Town MP Peter Kaluma alludes that indeed the trashing of the report was ill-meant, which might quantify the claims that naked bribery happened in the house.

The valid concern however is whether the MPs decided to politicize the matter instead of looking into the report in its entirety.
