Rotich’s interesting Budget

By Mercy Imali

National Treasury CS Henry Rotich’s  Budget was a bag of mixed fortunes.

Alcohol consumers and gamblers were hit hard. On the other hand, manufacturers and consumer lobby groups opened champagne bottles.

Many Kenyans commended the move to tax 10 per cent of betting stakes to discourage young people from betting. Wananchi were also happy that the Government had finally taken measures to cut the public wage bill.

Notable was the push to introduce uptake of third-party insurance policy by bodaboda and tuk-tuk passenger transporters. This is a huge relief to the bodaboda riders and their passengers.
